Long time, no see everyone! I have no idea how it happened, but I just went into a blog hiatus and now I’m back!
Valentine’s Day (which has a surprisingly dark story behind its name) is today, so this tag is perfect for this holiday. Anyway, I was tagged by the lovely Heather @ The Sassy Book Geek. Thanks so much for tagging me!
Phase 1: Initial Attraction- a book you bought because of the cover
I buy a lot of books because of their cover. For me, I first look at the synopsis before looking at the cover because most of my TBR comes from Goodreads. After, if I really want to read the book and its cover it pretty, I buy it. Otherwise, I borrow it from the library.
But an exception to my usual routine is Illuminae. IT’S SO BEAUTIFUL HAVE YOU SEE IT WITHOUT THE DUSTJACKET OH MY FREAKING GOODNESS IT’S SO GORGEOUS IT BURNS MY EYES!
No, but seriously. This book is so pretty inside and out.
Phase 2: First Impressions- a book you got because of its summary
Um. All of them? I don’t buy books unless I like the summary.
Phase 3: Sweet Talk- a book with great writing
I loved Jandy Nelson’s I’ll Give You the Sun. The writing style was very poetic and had an interesting artistic feel to it. It’s kind of hard to explain unless you’ve read the book (which you should). Although at times I felt like Jandy Nelson was overdoing the artistic-ness in her writing, the book was still amazing.
Phase 4: First Date- the first book of a series that made you want to pick up the rest
The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson. THAT’S ENDING THOUGH! I couldn’t not want the rest of the series after he dropped that bomb on me. I can’t say much other than that Brandon Sanderson is a writing genius. If you haven’t read the Mistborn trilogy, you definitely should.
Phase 5: Late Night Phone Calls- a book that kept you up all night
One of the only books that kept me up until the wee hours (besides Harry Potter and Percy Jackson) was Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas. I came across it on accident and started reading it on my tablet and COULDN’T PUT IT DOWN. I read until 4 o’clock in the morning before I was too tired to continue. I woke up five hours later to finish the rest of the book.
Phase 6: Always On My Mind- a book you couldn’t stop thinking about
Harry Potter. Too cliché? Don’t care. I read it for the first time about seven years ago and I still can’t stop thinking about it.
Phase 7: Getting Physical- a book that you love the way it feels
Both the hardcovers and paperbacks of any of the Throne of Glass books. Their covers feel velvety and if they were any degree softer, it could become a blanket. I swear. When I bought my first physical copy of a Throne of Glass book (which was weirdly the third book), I couldn’t stop stroking the cover. I know it sounds really strange, but I swear, once you notice how nice the cover feels, you can’t stop touching it.
Phase 8: Meeting the Parents- a book you would recommend to your family and friends
I would recommend The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. In my opinion, it’s modern classics that everyone should read at one point in their life.
Phase 9: Thinking about the Future- a book or series you know you will re-read many times in the future
Harry Potter. Too cliché again? Still don’t care. I don’t tend to reread a lot of books, but I know that I’m going to be rereading this series over and over again in the future.
Phase 10: Share the Love- who do you tag?
You get tagged. You get tagged. Everyone gets tagged!
Until next time….
