Summer TBR List

I really love making lists. It makes me feel like I’m organized and have my life together (because often times I don’t). So of course I made a list of books I want/need to read over the summer. Most of the books on this list are books that I own but haven’t read yet. The rest are books I need to finish to complete reading challenges or my summer reading assignment. *groan*

At least I’ll still have time to enjoy the sunset now that it’s summer time.

One of the reading challenges that my local library summer reading program issued was to read a book set in Texas. I didn’t know many books that were set in Texas so I looked some up. Most of the books I saw were western romances or books about cowboys, neither of which I wanted to read. However, I came across this book and heard many people talking about how beautiful it is, so I think I’m going to give it a try.

I’ve had this book since January and still haven’t read it. My friend has been badgering me about it ever since I told her that I got the book. She loves the book, and many other people on Goodreads and on BookTube have been raving about it ever since it was released. Plus, it’s one of the Teens’ Top Ten by YALSA, which also happens to be a challenge for the summer reading program that I’m participating in. Kill two birds with one stone.

I just got this recently and I’m super duper excited to read this. It’s freaking Rick Riordan and I heard that some of the characters from the Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus series make an appearance. I read Riordan’s second most-recent book (The Sword of Summer) but didn’t quite like is as much as his other works. Hopefully, this book will redeem that. I have high hopes because everyone was raving about it when it first came out.

A Gathering of Shadows FinalA Gathering of Shadows

I still haven’t finished this book. I just really need to get on it. Like I said a thousand times before, it’s not a bad book, but I can’t seem to get into it for some reason. I really enjoyed the first book, and the I liked the part of this book that I’ve read, but yet I haven’t finished this dang book. It’s one of those situations where I say, “It’s not you. It’s me.” It’s not the book’s fault. It’s definitely mine.

To Kill a Mockingbird

I’ve been meaning to read this book for awhile now, but I never worked up the nerve to start it. Everyone and their mother has read this book already and I feel like I’m the only one who hasn’t read the book or watch the movie. Now that it’s part of my summer reading assignment, I have to read whether or not I’m ready.

1984

Ever since I’ve read Animal Farm, I’ve wanted to read 1984 because I heard it was much better. I’ve started it, and unlike many of the older books that I’ve tried to read, this one isn’t so bad. I’m hoping that I’ll enjoy this as much as other people have. Big brother is always watching, my friend.

 Dreams of Gods & Monsters

I read the first two books about a year ago, and I just never got around to reading the last book. There were so many new books that I wanted to read that I forgot that I still needed to finish this series. Now that I checked out the audiobook, I can listen to it while reading along. I don’t know why I didn’t pick up the book earlier, but I’m glad I didn’t wait any longer to start reading the conclusion to this great series. Fingers crossed that the ending will be as amazing as people told me it was!

I took a long time with the first two books in this trilogy. It took me three months to read The Final Empire and five months to read The Well of Ascension. I hope that it doesn’t take me longer than a month to read this book now that it’s summer and I’ll have more time and less things to do.

I’m starting to see a reoccurring theme. I had a book for a long period of time and I still haven’t started/read the book. Well, this book is no exception. My sister gave me this book as a present for Christmas, and I haven’t read it yet. Heck, it’s been six months now and I didn’t even pick it up once. Everyone has already finished the whole trilogy and I’m still stuck on the second book.

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before

Same deal with this book. I’ve had this book for about a year now and you guessed it! I haven’t read it. My sister actually read this book twice and I haven’t even touched it. I heard that it’s a super cute contemporary and that the relationship between the sisters is going to make you melt. I’m in need of a good contemporary right now because it’s summer time and I’ve read so many fantasy books lately that I need a break.

Me Before You

The movie trailer for this book was released, everyone and everything have been raving about it non-stop. I want to watch the movie, but I want to read the book before I read the movie. I just like experiencing the original work before experiencing the adaptation, if that makes any sense.
