I was tagged by Dr.Awkto @ The Inky Awkto. Thanks so much for tagging me! It’s almost been a month since I was tagged, and I’m just now getting to it. Whoops… Writer’s block sucks.
1. What do you like about buying new books?
Everything! I like browsing the shelves at a bookstore and finding potential new books for my TBR. I like being surrounded by books. I like the smell of new books. I just generally like books, so of course shopping for new books is a enjoyable experience.
2. How often do you buy new books?
I try to not to get too carried away when I go to a bookstore or shop online. On average, I get about two physical books a month (and a handful of ebooks), but I’m trying to cut down even further.
3. Bookstore or online book shopping – which do you prefer?
Both bookstore and online book shopping has it perks. I can’t say which one I prefer over the other because I use both of them so often.
When you go to a bookstore, you can physically look at the book and its condition and decide whether or not you want it. With online shopping, you can see how battered the book is when you buy it until it arrives in the mail. However, online book shopping is generally cheaper. On the downside, the wait can be antagonizing as you stare at your mailbox, waiting for your package to come. If you buy books at a bookstore, you don’t have to wait. On the other side, online shopping normally has more options. Especially if you live in a smaller town, your local bookstore might not have as many selections as a bookstore in a big city.
So yeah. In short, I can’t choose which one I like better.
4. Do you have a favorite bookshop?
I’ve only ever been to three bookstores before: Barnes & Noble, Half Price Books, and Books-A-Million (B.A.M.). The nearest B&N and HPB store are both fairly small, so they don’t have the biggest selection of books (unfortunately). As for the Books-A-Million, I’ve only ever been there once when I was much younger, so I don’t remember exactly was it was like.
I guess if I had to choose one, I would choose Barnes & Noble because that’s the bookstore I go to the most often.
5. Do you preorder books?
I wish I remember to, but I never do. I get so excited about a hype of a book that I forget to preorder it. Most of the time, I just go to the bookstore and buy a copy the day it comes out.
6. Do you have a monthly book buying limit?
I try not to go over two books per month, but now I’m trying to limit down to one (or zero!) book a month.
7. Book buying bans – Are they something for you?
Yes. I used to buy so many books to the point where my TBR pile was a mile high. After I went on a book buying ban, the number of books reduced dramatically over the months.
8. How big is your wishlist?
HUGE. You can never have too many books. Just saying.
9. Which three books from your wishlist do you wish to own NOW?
Empire of Storms (Throne of Glass, #5) by Sarah J. Maas
The third book of the A Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J. Maas
Crooked Kingdom (Six of Crows, #2) by Leigh Bardugo
I just realized that all of these haven’t been released yet… *sigh* Gotta wait.
10. Tagging?
Bree @ The Literary Hellion
Poppy @ Poppy’s Best of Books
Melissa @ Book Nerd Momo
And you! If you want to do this, consider yourself tagged!
Until next time….
I’ve been on a book buying ban for two months… I’ve never bought so many books, haha! I think I’m trying to hoard as much as possible before university starts and I get less time to take care of my wishlist.

Haha same here! I was buying so many books at once and needed to start a book buying ban or else I was going to run out of space in my bookshelf 😂

I’m on a book buying ban atm, though I did pre-order some books a while ago which are meant to turn up soon! Ooops! 🙂

I kind of wish I did the same thing (minus the fact I always forget to preorder books) because now I can’t buy the new releases I want 😂

Managing the to-read pile is by far the hardest part of being a reader. That and remembering to go to bed before 3am!

Haha yes! Sometimes I get so into a book that I don’t realize I just pulled an all-nighter until my alarm clock goes off!

I usually only realize it when the room gets bright, and then think “Oh sh–“. At that point, it’s really a tossup on whether it’s better to get one hour of sleep…or finish the book. You can probably guess which one I pick!

All of this is so true. I have got to stop buying books ^^

Hi Jessica! I just recently stumbled upon your blog, and love it! I’ll be hanging around for a while, so I can’t wait to see everything you post 🙂
I have to say, book bans never really work for me, but I’ve forced myself to visit the library more often than a bookstore. Also, the smell of new books works like a drug. The whole reading experience is amazing!

Thanks so much for the kind words! As much as I love buying books (I agree, the smell is like a drug), I should also visit the library more often. I’ve just broken my book buying ban yesterday when I bought the newest Harry Potter book… Whoops 😀

I’m gonna do this tag!
Re: Preordering books – if you really like the author/book, you should preorder. Their advance and promotion is really impacted by pre order sales!
I totally love shopping in a store than online. The smell, the feel… so obsessed!

I keep on forgetting to preorder books, but hopefully I’ll remember this time!
Hahaha I’m also obsessed with shopping at book stores too 😀

I love this post! I can never stop myself from buying books, so I don’t go to bookstores often. If I go, I have to spend at least three hours in there.

Same here! If I ever go to a bookstore, I leave a good five hours later with an empty wallet but tons of books 😂

I’ve been on a book ban for over a month… It’s hard when I go shopping and notice a bookstore with half price discounts. I just have to reread books at home!

I understand your struggle. Every time I see a bookstore I have to force myself not to go in…

Love this tag! I spent all of my four years worth of student finance on books and I have no regrets! I have had to call my mom to pick me up on more than 10 occasions because I bought too many books to safely get home on the bus!

One can’t have too many books 😄

My bedroom may try and disagree but it’s mouth is too full of books! I’mslowly persuading my mom and dad to convert the attic into a library, slow but steady progress!
