The Thanksgiving Book Tag

Thanksgiving is tomorrow, which means it’s time to prime my stomach for all the delicious foods I know I’m going to eat.

I wasn’t tagged by anyone, but I saw this on Heather’s blog, The Sassy Book Geek, and wanted to give it a go. This tag was created by Erin & Becca on their BookTube channel, fangirlscity.

1. Bread- What book is purely fluff, and has no real plot line?

Lumberjanes by Noelle Stevenson

Each volume has their own little adventure, but the volumes don’t really correlate into one big story from what I know.

2. Turkey- What book made you want to fall asleep?

The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne

Maybe it’s because it was assigned reading, but this book bored me to tears. Having to analyze every single sentence made the story feel a whole lot worse. I legitimately fell asleep while trying to annotate the story.

3. Gravy- What book makes the whole series worth reading?

Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi

This is the third book of the Shatter Me series. I enjoyed the first two books, but I found that Juliette was super annoying. Then in the second book she started to develop as a character. By the time I finished the Ignite Me, she was one of my favorite characters in the series.

4. Stuffing- What book is stuffed full of action scenes?

The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson

I have probably never come across a book or series filled with as much action as the Mistborn trilogy. The fighting scenes become so intense that I often had to set down the book and process what was happening every few pages. I still can’t understand how Brandon Sanderson is able to write so much and consistently publish amazing stories. I have a theory: he is a freaking wizard.

5. Mashed Potatoes- What book looked good, and then wasn’t?

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J.K. Rowling

Like many Harry Potter fans, I had high hopes for the supposedly eighth book of the Harry Potter series. Too high of hopes, perhaps. When I read the script, I was highly disappointed. Of course, I know the authors were limited due to the fact that the script is actually part of a play and a play can’t be seven hours long but still, I was expecting more.

6. Cranberries- What book has the sweetest romance?

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas

If Feysand isn’t relationship goals for you, I don’t know what is.

7. Corn- What’s the corniest book you’ve ever read?

I’m going to assume that corny means funny, so here are a couple books that don’t fail to make me laugh:

Hyperbole and a Half by Allie Brosh

Adulthood is a Myth by Sarah Anderson

Big Mushy Happy Lump by Sarah Anderson

Furiously Happy by Jenny Lawson

8. Green beans- What book is too long and needs to be shortened?

Dreams of Gods & Monsters by Laini Taylor

Now, I know that I’m going against popular opinion here, but I didn’t really like the Daughter of Smoke & Bone trilogy. I liked the first book, but it went downhill from there for me. I thought that the last book was way too long at 600+ pages and could be shortened a bit. I was so tired of reading the story that I resorted to listening to the audiobook to force myself to finish it.

9. Pumpkin Pie- What book do you read to get out of a reading slump?

I don’t have anything specific that I read every time I’m in a reading slump but I like to read short stories like comics or graphic novels or books that I know I’ll like from my favorite authors.

10. Dog/Cat- What’s your favorite Thanksgiving food that you would steal from the table?

I never really grew up in the American culture, so during Thanksgiving, I didn’t eat too many traditional American meals. Over the years living in America, my family slowly incorporated some of the foods into our traditional foods. I don’t really like turkey (and neither does my family) so we stopped eating that after one year but one thing that we have kept is mashed potatoes. They’re kind of gross once they cooled down, but they are absolutely delicious when they’re piping hot.

Thanks for providing the blank template! This is the first time I’ve seen someone do that and it is LOADS easier than copying and pasting someone else’s layout.

    Awesome answers too!
