It’s the middle of October now and that means Halloween is just around the corner! Everyone and everything is getting ready for Halloween!
To be honest, I’m a complete chicken when it comes to scary/creepy things but that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy the festivities that come with the holiday. What better way to celebrate the spooky spirit than with a book tag?
This tag was created by Naomi The Book Lover over on YouTube. I wasn’t tagged by anyone per say but no one needs to know that 😉
1. Carving pumpkins- what book would you carve up and light on fire?
Yikes. I haven’t read a book that I hated so much I wanted to light it on fire. I dunno… it feels almost sacrilegious to purposely damage a book. If you don’t like it, then just give it to someone else that might find joy in it.
2. Trick or treat- what character is a treat, what character is a trick?
Rather than choose two separate characters, I found a character that is both and trick and a treat. Kaz Brekker. He is a treat to read about (because he’s insanely good at scheming) but would be a trick to be around because he would somehow include you in his elaborate plan.
3. Candy corn- what book is always sweet?
I have a couple so get ready for a list:
- To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han
- Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli
- A Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J. Maas
- Lumberjanes series by Noelle Stevenson and Shannon Watters
All of them are sweet/cute in their own way.
4. Ghosts- what character would you love to visit you as a ghost?
No one, thanks. No ghosts.

Just kidding. It would be so cool to be visited by Winter from The Lunar Chronicles. I think her and I would get along just fine.
5. Dressing up in costume- what character would you want to be for a day?
I was going to say Harry Potter, but then I realized that I wouldn’t stand a chance surviving even 20 minutes in his shoes so maybe just an insignificant character from the Harry Potter world? Like… that one nameless person that made that one appearance in that one book from the series? Yeah, I want to exchange my life with theirs for a day. To be honest I just want to know what it’s like the go to Hogwarts without being in peril 24/7.
6. Wizards and witches- what is your favorite Harry Potter moment?
Of course my favorite moment has to be the iconic scene where Molly Weasley yells “NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU B*TCH” and then freaking slays the crap out of Bellatrix. Also, that is probably one of the only quotes I remember from the series. That and “Alas, earwax.”
7. Blood and gore- what book was so creepy that you had to take a break from it for awhile?
One of the creepiest books I’ve tried to read was Through the Woods by Emily Carroll. It’s this graphic novel consisting of several different stories within it, and let me tell you, the story in combination with the illustrations is creepy as heck. I had to actually put it in my DNF (did not finish) shelf because it was waaaay too scary for my taste. The tag says take a break from it for “awhile”. I say “never pick it up ever again and avoid it at all costs”.
I tag…
… everyone and anyone who wants to get into the Halloween spirit!

Until next time….
Kaz is a great pick for both of those!! And I hear you about through the woods being scary!

I’m with on the scary bit. I hate scary stuff, but I love Halloween. I love the wackiness of it all….and the candy.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t like the trick part of trick or treat season XD

You had chuckling when you said that you wanted to be an insignificant character in the Potter world. You are hilarious. And I agree that being insignificant works and you get to stay alive.

Yeah because I’m so clumsy I thought I’d probably die if I was a main character in the Harry Potter world. Sometimes being the person in the background will save your life XD

What a fun challenge! I think I’m going to have to check out Through the Woods, as I love graphic novels as well as anything spoopy! The scariest book I ever read was The Rats. It was so gory, scary, and intense it actually gave me nightmares!

Through the Woods is a great book. It’s more creepy than scary, and I couldn’t handle the spook but if you take away the scary factor the artwork and story is actually really great.

Love the look of this challenge. I agree with you about the Harry Potter character. I’d have loved to go to Hogwarts but can do without death-defying stunts and constant peril!
