Do I Have That Book Challenge

I was just scrolling through my YouTube feed to find a video so I had an excuse to procrastinate, when I came across this book challenge. It’s been a hot minute since I’ve watched a BookTube video, so I was intrigued. After watching Keeping Tabs (the creator) take a stab at her own challenge, I wanted to give it a shot!

Granted, I recently got rid of 60+ books from my shelf so this might be a bit more difficult.

Oh well.

The general rules I got from her instructions were this:

1. Time yourself trying to find each prompt on your shelf
2. Try and beat the time of the person who challenged you.
3. Don’t forget to tag your challenger and the original creator.
4. Have fun!

I decided that rather than time myself and cause my stress levels to go off the charts, I would just try and find each prompt on my shelf. Each prompt that I find a book for will count as a point. The max amount of points is 20 (since there’s 20 prompts). Plus, me just telling the time it took me to find all these books would not be that exciting.

It occurs to me now that this challenge is probably more enjoyable in video form, but alas, I am not a BookTuber. I apologize in advanced.

1. Do you have a book with deckled edges?

Image result for uprooted naomi novik

The first book that popped in mind was Uprooted by Naomi Novik. In fact, I think that’s the only book I own with deckled edges. I’m not a huge fan of deckled edges, to be honest. It makes the pages hard to flip, although they do look fancy.

2. Do you have a book with 3+ people on the cover?

I own the movie edition of The Help by Katherine Stockett, which has the main cast of the movie on the cover.

3. Do you have a book based on another fictional story?

Related image

Keeping Tabs mentioned fairy tale retellings, which made me automatically think of Cinder by Marissa Meyer, probably one of the most iconic Cinderella retellings in YA history. I never really liked fairytale retellings until I read The Lunar Chronicles. That series made me a believer.

4. Do you have a book with a title 10 letters long?

Image result for dear martin

Dear Martin by Nic Stone fits the bill for this one.

5. Do you have a book with a title that starts and ends with the same letter?

Image result for obsidio

Obsidio by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff is such a great book!

6. Do you have a Mass Market Paperback book?

Related image

I had to read 1984 by George Orwell for my English class this year, which I bought a mass market paperback of because it was cheaper than the other options.

7. Do you have a book written by an author using a pen name?

Related image

I’m not sure if I’m allowed to use 1984 twice, but George Orwell’s actual name is Eric Arthur Blair.

8. Do you have a book with a character’s name in the title?

Image result for simon vs the homosapien agenda

Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli works, right? Even though it’s not his full name, I’m going to say it counts.

9. Do you have a book with 2 maps in it?

Related image

It took me a while to find one, but Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo has two maps. One is the general map of the world (or just the countries the story mentions) and the other is a map of the layout of the Ice Court.

10. Do you have a book that was turned into a TV show?

When I think of books that were turned into TV shows, my first thoughts turned to The Vampire Diaries, The Mortal Instruments, and The 100. I don’t own any books from any of the mentioned series. I do, however, own the entirety of the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas and the Six of Crows duology, both that have been announced that they are going to be turned into TV shows. That’s close enough, right? Right? No? Fine.

11. Do you have a book written by someone who is originally famous for something else? (celebrity/athlete/politician/TV personality…)

Image result for everything all at once bill nye

I have this book called Everything All At Once by Bill Nye, which I had to read for a project I had to do in my history class last year. I never finished the book like I should’ve, but I plan to finish the last half this year.

12. Do you have a book with a clock on the cover?

The only book I can think of for this prompt is The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster, but I don’t own a copy. In fact, I’ve never read it. I couldn’t find a cover with a clock on it.

13. Do you have a poetry book?

No, I don’t. It’s not that I don’t like poetry. I read them from time to time, but I tend to borrow them from my local library. I find that poetry books can be pricier than the normal plot-driven books that I read.

14. Do you have a book with an award stamp on it?

Image result for i'll give you the sun

I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson has won the Stonewall Honor Book and the Printz Award for Excellence in Young Adult Literature. I managed to find a book with not one but two awards stamped on its cover. Boom.

15. Do you have a book written by an author with the same initials as you?

I searched my bookshelf for a certain book because I knew this author had the same initials as me, but then I realized I got rid of it so… yeah. I’ve got nothing for this prompt. Next!

16. Do you have a book of short stories?

Image result for the assassin's blade

The Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J. Maas is a collection of short stories in the Throne of Glass series. I don’t think I need to explain my purchase of this one.

17. Do you have a book that is between 500-510 pages long?

That is an oddly specific range. I found a couple books that were in the 500-600 pages range, but not one that was within the 500-510 range. I guess I’m going to have to take an L on this one.

18. Do you have a book that was turned into a movie?

Related image

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han is a book where I loved the story and its movie adaptation as well. I’m very excited for the sequel, and I might need to read the second book in this series to catch up on what’s going on.

19. Do you have a graphic novel?

Like the case with poetry, most of the graphic novels I read come from the library. The reason I don’t buy graphic novels is that they can get expensive. I used to own an ARC of Hey, Kiddo, but I gifted it to a youth librarian because she said she wanted to read it.

20. Do you have a book written by 2 or more authors?

Image result for the illuminae files

ANY OF THE BOOKS IN THE ILLUMINAE FILES SERIES (by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff). The series is f*cking beautiful on so many levels. Not only is the story awesome, it’s told in reports, pictures, maps, and artwork. Not only that, the audio-books for them are fantastic. It’s just *ugh* so GOOD!

So I got 14 out of 20 prompts on my shelf, meaning I got 14 points. If you want to try out this challenge out for yourself, your goal is to beat my score of 14 points. Good luck!

It was really fun to try and hunt down the books for each prompt. Let me know how you did if you decide to try it out! 😀

What I’m most disappointed in is that you’ve never read “The Phantom Tollbooth.” It is one of the best kids’ fiction books out there.

Yes it’s one of the books that I just never got around to reading when I was younger. Maybe if I find the time I’ll give it a go.

My teacher in fifth grade read it out loud to us (she always read for 30 minutes after lunch), and I fell in love with it. My sister even got me a shirt with the cover on it!

This is an interesting challenge. But I would fail terribly at this cuz I am so poor remembering the cover and designs?!! I dont want to talk about it and I will be in the corner.

I’m sure you would do great! It took me a while to think of a book for some of the categories, so you’re not alone 😄
