The Holiday Drinks Book Tag

Happy holidays, my people! It’s been a hot minute since I’ve written a post for this blog. University has been kicking my butt, but I’m finally finished with finals! I’m with my family, and I’ve had a couple days to recuperate from all the testing and information grinding. Now I’m back!

I’ve been brainstorming for the past couple days what kinds of posts I should write when Norees from No Reads So Great saved my brain from thinking too hard and tagged me in this fun holiday book tag! I haven’t really been in the holiday spirit with all the testing that’s been going on, but now that I’m done I’m ready to dive in!

The Rules:

  • Check out the original post at Browsing for Books
  • Link back to this post so I can see all your amazing answers
  • Have fun
  • Get a holiday drink to sip while writing!

I don’t have any holiday drinks laying around in the house (my family and I aren’t really huge holiday drink drinkers) and it’s too cold outside to go out and get some so I’m just going to stick with my water as I write this post.

HOT CHOCOLATE | MARSHMALLOWS AND CHOCOLATE AND WHIPPED CREAM, OH MY! Recommend a book that’s sweet through and through.

If you want something wholesome with a some actual sweet treats featured in the story, I recommend Pumpkinheads by Rainbow Rowell. It’s such a sweet graphic novel about these two friends spending their last fall of their senior year working at a pumpkin patch.

The relationship between the main characters is sweet. Some of the foods that are showcased in the story is sweet. The whole story is sweet to the heart. Basically, you’re going to have a hypothetical reading toothache if you read this story.

PEPPERMINT MOCHA | THE FLAVOR OF PEPPERMINT IS STRONG AND DISTINCT. Recommend a book with a lot of strong emotions.

Image result for kingdom of ashKingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas made me so emotional when I read it. If there’s one thing you need to know about me, it’s that I LOVE the Throne of Glass series. KoA is the last book in said series and it hit me so hard in the feels when I realized that this series that I basically grew up with was ending. That and the fact that a lot of characters die in the last book pierced my heart too. It was such a bittersweet story. I don’t want to give much else away because I don’t want to spoil anything.

All you need to know is that by the end of the series you are so invested in all the characters and you love (or hate) them with all your heart and to see them go through what they have to go through for the chance to create a better world will make your heart cry.

APPLE CIDER | IT’S SO GOOD IT CAN’T BE GOOD FOR YOU, BUT IT’S FROM APPLES—THAT MEANS IT’S HEALTHY, RIGHT? Recommend a book full of characters with questionable morals.

I question the motivations and morals of all the characters in An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir. They all have their own agendas and the story creates this distrust between the characters and between the reader and the characters. I don’t trust any of them as far as I can throw them, including the people who are painted as the “good guys.”

No one is innocent, and I believe each character has their own game that they’re playing, even Laia. In fact, I might go as far as saying the only person who has been true to what they said they’ll do is probably Helene, and I don’t trust her either. Everyone in this series is questionable, and the fact that I can’t predict what’s going to happen next keeps me intrigued.

EGGNOG | IT’S CREAMY AND SMOOTH, WITH A LITTLE SPICE, AND SOME PEOPLE EVEN ADD ALCOHOL TO IT. Recommend a book that’s mostly fun, with just a hint of danger.

Image result for the darkest starI really like The Darkest Star by Jennifer L. Armentrout. Maybe it’s because I absolutely adored her Lux series, and The Darkest Star follows one of the side characters in that series. Maybe it’s because it’s a super fun book that is a combination of a lot of stuff I love in books. You want action? Check. Suspense? Check. What about some mystery? We got it. Aliens? Say no more. You want some romance thrown in there? We got you. Honestly, what more could a gal ask for in a series (other than to have the next book immediately in her hands because she’s impatient and cannot wait until the next book comes out)? I love the Lux world that JLA has created and is still expanding, and I’m so glad that we get to see some old characters as well as some new ones in this new YA series of hers.

GINGERBREAD LATTE | A DRINK WITH A VERITABLE EXPLOSION OF SPICES. Recommend a book with a lot of action.

Image result for half blood jennifer l armentroutThe Covenant series by Jennifer L. Armentrout will supply you with enough action to last you for a lifetime. There is constant fighting, battles, war, training, and scheming that is happening in the series that there is never a dull moment.

You’d think that the action in the first couple books is as bad as it gets, but it gets a heck of a lot more intense towards the end of the series when the war starts brewing and Alex and her gang is running out of time. There’s a prophecy involving a girl and a boy. There are many sacrifices that are made, and still the world demands more. The gods demand more.

Thank you so much for tagging me! I loved reading your post! I’m not a big holiday drinks drinker either. I usually stick to Hot Chocolate and Tea … and this year I was introduced to Glühwein! It was nice, but too sweet after a few mugs. xD

I also usually drink either hot chocolate or tea whenever I’m in a festive mood. I’ve never heard of Gluhwein before, but it sounds like it’s really warming and nice! I can imagine myself sitting by a fireplace, reading while drinking a nice cup of mulled wine. XD
