Opinion on J.K. Rowling?

I was going to write a whole post about my thoughts on J.K. Rowling, but I ended up scrapping the idea. Basically, while the Harry Potter series had a huge, relatively positive impact on my childhood, I can’t, in good conscience, continue to support her as an adult. She has a humongous platform, and seeing her use it to hurt certain groups is not something I’m okay with. After her (sort of) recent remarks, I’ve been purposefully avoiding talking about the Harry Potter series on this blog. I don’t want to give her any more attention than she’s already getting. I’ve also purposefully stopped buying official Harry Potter books/merch because it no longer feels right or brings me joy.

Favorite author?

I know this is cheating, but I can’t just choose one. Some of my favorites are:

  • Sarah J. Maas
  • Jennifer L. Armentrout
  • Sabaa Tahir

Longest book you’ve ever read?

According to Goodreads, the longest book I’ve read is Oblivion by Jennifer L. Armentrout. I read the Kindle version, which is basically the first three books of the Lux series in Daemon’s perspective combined into one. It’s 1,005 pages. If we’re talking non-ebooks, the longest book I’ve read is Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas. It’s the last book in the Throne of Glass series, and it’s a whopping 992 pages. I own the physical copy, and it’s a chonker.

Favorite desert?

I don’t know too many deserts, but the northern part of the Chihuahuan Desert in New Mexico has white sand, and the pictures are really beautiful. It’s kind of trippy to look at because it looks like snow if snow was in a desert.

What’s your clothing style?

I don’t know… I feel like my style is just jeans and a shirt. Lately, it’s been becoming more lounge wear. I wear a lot of t-shirts and leggings with oversized jackets now. Basically, if it’s comfy, I’m wearing it.

Least favorite character?

Keris Veturia (a.k.a. the Commandant) from the An Ember in the Ashes series. She’s a fantastic villain, and I love to hate her.

Unpopular opinion?

Pineapple on pizza is actually not that bad. It’s sweet, salty, and a little tangy. I wouldn’t order it, but I’d eat it if someone gave me a slice.

Do you like David Bowie?

I’m indifferent about him. I know he’s a super popular singer and a pop culture icon, but that’s about it. I haven’t listened to his music, so I can’t say I like/dislike him at all.

Top bands / artists?

Looking at my 2020 wrapped on Spotify, my top artists I listened to were Sam Smith, Khalid, Joji, Doja Cat, and Billie Eilish.

What are your ideal pair of shoes?

Ones that make me look taller (I’m super short) and are comfortable to walk in. Basically, I’m asking for the impossible.

Favorite television show?

Not a huge TV show person, but I just started The Good Place, and it’s pretty fun! I’m also making my way through Psych, because it reminds me of Sherlock if it were set in 2010.

YOUR ANSWERS ARE SO GOOD! I love this – you’ve done a great job of expressing how I feel about JK Rowling lol. People have so many different views on her that I’ve never really wanted to discuss her properly on my site, also the whole subjects gets really deep into all the β€˜artist and art’, it’s a tricky one! Shirt and jeans is definitely the way to go at the moment πŸ˜‚ Great post!

I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels that way about her! As much as I appreciated her work as a kid, I don’t know if I can continue to support her knowing what I know now.

Haha you can’t go wrong with a shirt and jeans, but I have to admit nowadays I’m always in sweatpants and generally looking like a couch potato XD
