20 Questions Tag | The Awkward Book Blogger

Hello, lovelies! This week I bring you another fun book tag! I was tagged by the lovely Marta @ Of Waves and Pages. Make sure to go visit her blog and new YouTube channel! (Also, sorry it took so long to post this šŸ˜“)

1. How many books are too many for a series?

Depends on the series. I think most stories work well in trilogies, but I’m willing to read a longer series if I’m invested in the world and characters. However, I think anything more than seven books it’s just way too long (and that’s pushing it).

2. How do you feel about cliffhangers?

I feel like the kombucha girl when it comes to cliffhangers. I don’t like them, but I do. They hurt so good. I don’t know how else to explain it.

3. Hardcover or paperback?

Hardcovers! I’m usually way too impatient to wait for a book to come out in paperback before buying it. šŸ˜… But if the paperback edition is available, I’ll usually buy that over the hardcover.

4. Favorite book?

No. Please don’t make me choose.

(One of my most recent favorites is Felix Ever After by Kacen Callender.)

5. Least favorite book?

Uhhh… I’m not sure. I guess one book I really struggled to understand was The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger. I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it either.

6. Love triangles, yes or no?

Yes and no? I don’t hate them as much as a lot of readers do, but they are very predictable. Usually the girl starts forming feelings for one dude before another comes in and wrecks it. The girl almost always ends up with the second dude.

7. The most recent book you couldn’t finish?

I’m not sure I want to say this on the internet, but I had to DNF Skyward by Brandon Sanderson. WAIT, before you cancel me, I plan on finishing it. I started it while I was in a reading slump, so I wasn’t feeling it. I think I’ll like it once I’m in the mood to read sci-fi.

8. A book you’re currently reading?

At the time I’m writing this, I’m currently reading Foundryside by Robert Jackson Bennett. I saw that Brandon Sanderson blurbed the book, so I decided to pick it up. It has been a delight to read so far (my review will be up pretty soon)!

9. Last book you recommended to someone?

One of the bookish fan artists I follow on Instagram is getting into Jennifer L. Armentrout’s books and I recommended White Hot Kiss. It’s been a couple years since I’ve finished the series, but I still think of it to this day. As the young folks would say, it lives rent-free in my mind.

10. Oldest book you’ve read by publication date?

I’m not sure. It’s probably something by Edgar Allen Poe that I had to read for English class in high school.

11. Newest book you’ve read by publication date?

I’m really bad at reading new releases when they come out. (At the time I’m writing this) the newest book I’ve read is probably How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories by Holly Black. I got a huge case of FOMO (fear of missing out) seeing other people post really beautiful photos of the book so I went out and got myself a physical copy.

12. Favorite author?

Like favorite books, I don’t have just one favorite author. Here are a few:

  • Sarah J. Maas
  • Jennifer L. Armentrout
  • Brandon Sanderson
  • Sabaa Tahir

These are the authors where I know I’m going to like any of their books I pick up. Yes, they all write fantasy novels… sorry, contemporary genre readers šŸ˜…

13. Buying books or borrowing books?

I buy more than I borrow. I read very slowly, and I don’t want to subject someone to wait for me to finish a book before returning it to them. I should borrow more often from my local library, but I usually can’t finish a book before it’s due.

14. A book you dislike that everyone seems to love?

I don’t hate this book, but I couldn’t get into The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty. For some reason, I would read a page but none of the information entered my brain. Halfway through the book, I realized I didn’t remember anything. I was frustrated with the story (but mainly with myself) so I DNF-ed it. I definitely want to try it again in the future because it seems like something I’ll really enjoy.

15. Bookmarks or dog-ears?

Bookmarks, for sure! It hurts to dog-ear pages.

16. A book you can always reread?

Nowadays, my TBR is WAY too long for me to reread books, but I like to skim through my favorite scenes in Queen of Shadow and Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas. The series I have reread the most is probably the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan.

17. Can you read while listening to music?

Nope! My brain malfunctions when I try to read and listen to music at the same time.

18. One POV or multiple?

I love multiple POVs! I love reading about different sides of the same story. Of course, it’s hard to keep up if there are too many points of view. I like no more than four POVs.

19. Do you read a book in one sitting or over multiple days?

Make that multiple weeks. I don’t have a lot of time (or energy) to read after class/studying, so it takes me a long time to finish a book. Honestly, I don’t remember the last time I finished a book in one sitting.

20. Who do you tag?

Hundreds & Thousands of Books
Couple of Bees Read
Kira @ Kira Jeanette
and you! (yes, you!)

If you want to do this, consider yourself tagged! ā¤

This was a lot of fun! I agree with you on so much 🤣 Dog earing books I think is either awful if you have a pristine copy of a book, or super satisfying when the book is old and worn. Oh, and I’m surprised about Catcher In The Rye, its so famous and such a classic, many people have said its brilliant šŸ˜… Great post šŸ’™

Dog earring is painful. I noticed someone at the library fold the whole page to mark their spot and I physically flinched. šŸ˜…

I’m not a huge classics reader, but I had high hopes for Catcher in the Rye. My English teacher hyped it up, but not having much of a plot/resolution at the end of the story is what did it for me. I don’t know… I’m a simple reader. Just give me a good conflict, rising action, and a happy ending, and I’m satisfied. I can see why it’s a favorite among a lot of people, though!
