August 2021 wrap up (it’s my birthday!)

img_0036

August wasn’t a great reading month for me, since I was busy packing, moving, and preparing for the new semester. Also, today’s my birthday! I’ll be celebrating by attending lectures through Zoom, going to work through Zoom, and going to club meetings through Zoom. All jokes aside, while these aren’t the ideal conditions, I’m thankful to be able to celebrate (virtually) surrounded by my good friends.

Goals

Because I failed so miserably with my July goals, I made my August goals a little less ambitious.

Goals:
✅ read two books from physical TBR
✅ do not buy any books

# of books left in my physical TBR: 17

September goals:
read four books from physical TBR

I’m really behind on my TBR, so I want to double down on my efforts to read before the end of the year. Unfortunately, the semester is in session, meaning I’ll have less time to read. We’ll see how I do….

Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner

I’m putting The Anthropocene Reviewed on pause because I didn’t bring my copy with me to college. Until I can check out the ebook from the library, I’ll have to put it on hold.

In the meanwhile, I started The Alloy of Law on a sleepless night. I’ve only read the prologue (I would’ve read more if it wasn’t three in the morning), but I think I’m really going to like it. Will I like it as much as the original series? I’m not sure.

I’m also listening to the audiobook for Crying in H Mart, because it’s narrated by Michelle Zauner herself. I don’t know why, but I love when memoirs are narrated by the author. I already cried once, and I’m only four chapters in.

Life Update

Man, life was super hectic this past month. I spent most of August preparing for the new semester and the move back to campus. It started pouring the day I moved, so the drive to the city was quite scary. Thankfully, it stopped raining when I got to the apartment, but the heat and humidity that came afterwards was not fun to move heavy boxes in.

Aside from that, the move was pretty uneventful. I’ve been settling in for the past few days, and it’s been nice. College has been crazy with hybrid classes (some days in-person, some days online) and social distancing, but we’re making things work.

It’s also my birthday today! Since it would be unwise to have a get-together with friends, I just celebrated by treating myself to one of my favorite things: boba!

boba

If you haven’t had boba before, I highly recommend it! There are a bunch of different teas and drinks you can get with boba, so you’re bound to find something you like. Personally, I like drinks like peach black tea or mango green tea.

Other than that, life has been pretty lowkey. How was your August? Did you do anything fun? What are you looking forward to in September? Let me know in the comments!

The Alloy of Law & mistborn in general is something I’ve wanted to read for so long so I’m definitely picking that up soon! Have a great September!
