Rupaul’s Drag Race Book Tag

I’m not a huge reality TV watcher, but something about RuPaul’s Drag Race is so captivating and entertaining. I’ve been a fan since Season 8, and it’s one of the only things keeping me sane during this lockdown and pandemic.

There seems to be a few different RPDR book tags out there, but I decided to go with the one created by Cats and Camera.

──────── ●⚫● ────────

1. ELEGANZA EXTRAVAGANZA – your most expensive book purchase

I don’t buy special edition books from bookish subscription boxes (which can be crazy expensive sometimes), so the most I’ve spent on a single book is around $25. Even with the adult books that retail for about $30, I wait until they’re on sale before I get a copy.

If we’re talking about the most amount of money I’ve spent on books at once, I pay a pretty penny when I’m at bookish events (festivals, conventions, etc.). That’s the only time I allow myself to buy more than one book.

[Editor’s note: Now that I think about it, the most expensive book purchase I’ve made is my college textbooks. Those things are wickedly expensive!]

2. PIT CREW – aesthetically pleasing books The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea: 9781250780867: Oh, Axie: Books

I don’t know about you, but I feel like the covers of YA books have been becoming closer and closer to works of art. Here are a few covers that I absolutely adore! (excuse me as I drool over these beautiful covers)

3. COMEBACK QUEEN – an author that you lost interest in/took ages to bring out a new book that came back with a bang

The Cruel Prince

I didn’t really like Holly Black’s earlier works, but I really enjoyed her Cruel Prince series.

4. DON’T FUCK IT UP – a sequel you’re dying to read

The Alloy of Law: A Mistborn Novel: Sanderson, Brandon: 9780575105836: Books

I recently got a copy of The Alloy of Law by Brandon Sanderson, because I’ve been meaning to read the spinoff to the Mistborn series. I’m not expecting the same level of genius that was in Mistborn, but I’m pretty sure it’s going to be dang good.

5. SNATCH GAME – Compare two books with similar plots, tropes or covers and let us know who did it better

Ooh we’re about to get shady 👀

I’m going to compare the covers of Aurora Rising and Skyward.

Aurora Rising

I specifically chose these two covers because they’re both purple and were illustrated by the amazing artist Charlie Bowater. They both feature the female protagonist and have space-themed backgrounds. Both covers are beautiful in their own way, but personally I like Aurora Rising’s a little better. It draws my attention a bit more, and it has more mystery to it. Why is her eye glowing? Why does she have a gray streak of hair? Who knows? That being said, I like both of them a lot.

6. READING IS FUNDAMENTAL – “read” some of your favorite books (by read, I mean throw shade for those not in the know!)

In the words of Alyssa Edwards:

Firekeeper’s Daughter? Gutted.

Spin the Dawn? Rotted.

An Ember in the Ashes? Gila monster.

Mistborn? BEAST!

7. RUPAUL’S BEST FRIEND RACE – tag some people!

I’m not sure who has watched RPDR or not…
If you’re a fan of the show, consider yourself tagged!
