Paranormal Discussion: Zombies Edition

I know this isn’t one of my typical bookish post, but zombies often show up in media so I think this topic will be okay.

I love to read fictional stories, and that also includes books with paranormal creatures. Just the other night, I was thinking about the movie World War Z and how it was unusual to see zombies move quickly rather than your stereotypical slow zombies. (Author’s note: I have never watched World War Z, but I watched the Everything Wrong With video over it and that’s what got me thinking.) I was working on some essays I needed to write for an application when the question suddenly struck me:

Would you rather face one fast but dumb zombie or a group (let’s say five) of slow but smart zombies in a post-apocalyptic setting?

And so the discussion begins.

Milestone Q&A!

I’m so sorry for dropping off the face of this earth for about a month!

I’ve been super sick and super busy, which reduced my body and brain into mush. Now I’m much better and finished most of the things I need to get done. I just have a couple more tests this week and I’ll be free for a while. That being said…

A month ago (yeah… sorry about that), I had a post asking people to ask me questions. Basically, I wanted to do a Q&A in celebration of hitting 1000 followers on this blog.

Let’s get going!

1000+ Followers – Ask Me Questions!

Alright. Okay. What? Okay. No, I’m not freaking out. You are.

Okay, I’m definitely freaking out. About a month ago I hit the 1000 followers milestone.

To be honest, when I first started I never thought I’d get any followers, let alone 1000. It’s freaky to think that 1000 actual people are genuinely interested in this blog. I know this is super cheesy, but thank you for your support! Yes, you! You don’t even need to be a follower. Someone taking the time out of their day to read my posts alone is enough, and I can’t thank you enough for letting me be able to talk about my passion! ❤

It seems like a good time to do a Q&A, and I can’t have that without some questions so I would love for you to ask me as many as you want in the comments (bookish or non-bookish, I’m not picky). I’ll make another post with my answers (hopefully) sometime next week.

Once again, thank you so much for everyone’s support!

Until next time….

Diverting your attention

Recently I watched a Vlogbrother video (go Nerdfighteria!) that the Hank half of the Green brothers made. It’s called Things That You Just Might Love. He talked about how people who have attention and money use that attention and money to gain more attention and money (he explains it better than I do), and how he wanted to divert some of that attention to the things he loves.

And I wanted to do the same.

By no means am I famous or making money off of this blog, but I did want to share some of the things I loved because why not?

Also, I haven’t been posting that frequently on this blog because school (and writer’s block >.< ) are taking up a lot of my time. I wanted to use some of your extra attention and put them to places and things that I love.

ACOTAR series news update

It was announced a looooong time ago that the A Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J. Maas was going from three books to six books. What they didn’t announce until very recently was that the upcoming book, A Court of Wings and Ruin, will be the last book following Feyre and Rhysand. Sarah J. Maas said that the rest of the series will follow other characters in the same world and *maybe* Feyre and her crew will pop up once in a while. She’s basically making a spin-off series for the last three books.

Who is the rest of the story going to follow? We don’t know yet. Sarah J. Maas refused to reveal any information about it.

I’m assuming this whole spin-off situation will be sort of like the Selection series by Kiera Cass. Starting from The Heir (book 4), the main character switches from America to Eadlyn. The story still takes place in the same world, it just follows different characters half way through.

I have a couple guesses (more like wishes) as to who the last three books are going to follow. I’m hoping it follows either Amren, Feyre’s sisters, or Azriel. Who knows? Maybe the story will follow a set of completely new characters. Whoever the main protagonist is going to be, I’m sure I’ll enjoy the story. Anything written by Sarah J. Maas is gold.

How do you feel about this news?

Who do you hope/guess is going to be the new main character?

What do you think about the series in general?

Nine Things I do to Alleviate Stress

Hello! I’ve been super stressed lately, and if you’re still in school, I’m sure this time of year is pretty awful for you too. If you’re in high school, AP testing season and finals are approaching and teachers decide that this is a great time to give all the projects. If you’re in college, the work load sucks in general.

A couple weeks ago I broke down and went haywire. I didn’t know why. I just couldn’t focus because my emotions were out of control. I stopped and thought of what could’ve cause this. My conclusion was stress.

That got me thinking. I have a couple ways I deal with my stress and wanted to share it with the world to hopefully help someone in need.

I started a web-comic!?!

I’ve been thinking about this for a while and I finally started a web comic!

I’ve always had a passion for art and love for drawing, especially cartoons. With a little bit of encouragement from my friends, I created a web comic.

It’s nothing big right now, and definitely nothing great. I’m still trying to figure out how I want to draw my comics, so you’re going to see some inconsistencies with my drawing style.

Basically, I draw my thoughts and conversations that I’ve had/heard. It’s not one of those comic/story things.

I’m posting on Tapastic as well as Instagram. I’d highly appreciate if you check it out!

Tapastic also has a mobile app, which is super easy to use and free. If you sign up, you can use the code JESS461U to get 200 coins! You can use coins to buy keys to unlock episodes of certain stories and comics, or you can use them to tip your favorite author/artist. The choice is really up to you. You don’t even need to pay to earn coins if you don’t want to. You can just watch an ad to get some coins.

Here’s one of my favorite comics I’ve created so far:

I try to post weekly but recently I’ve been struggling. I don’t have a posting schedule yet but hope to soon.

Thanks for everyone’s support!

North Texas Teen Book Festival (NTTBF) is this weekend!

The NTTBF is this weekend and I’m so hyped because I can finally go this year! For those who are in the north Texas region, I would highly suggest considering on going. It’s on March 4th (Saturday) at the Irving Convention Center and there are going to be a whole bunch of middle-grade and young adult authors there. There are also going to be some BookTubers as well (Jesse from Jessethereader and Regan from PeruseProjects to only list a few)!

If you’re going, we might bump into each other, which would be awesome!

Don’t mind me if I become an awkward mess, though.

I’ve never been to this event before so I have no advice other than have fun and get there early.

Here is some general information:

The North Texas Teen Book Festival

Irving Convention Center,
500 W. Las Colinas Blvd.
Irving, TX 75039

Admission is free! However, parking is $5. There are going to be book sales as well as swag sold at the festival.

Tickets to meet Veronica Roth & R.L. Stine, tickets to go to certain events (Speed Dating books), and books start to sell at 8 a.m. I suggest to come earlier because I predict there’s going to be a fairly long line for those tickets. Book signings start at around 3:30 p.m. Once again, I suggest to go to the line early, especially if you want to maximize the number of authors you meet.

Extra Information:

For every 1 book you buy at the festival, you can bring 2 from home. The books bought from the festival help keep the admission free. Once again, you need a ticket to meet Veronica Roth and/or R.L. Stine. All the little teeny tiny details are on the website.

One tip I got from a friend is to bring your own lunch. The concessions there are super pricey and the wait is really long. She suggested to save that money to buy more books. 😉

If you want more information, you can check out their website here.

Are you going to the North Texas Teen Book Festival?

If so, who are you most excited to meet?

Giftcards for Downloading Apps: App Bounty

Books can be expensive. I get most of my books from discount stores, but every once in a while I have to buy from Amazon because I can’t find a certain book anywhere else. Most of the time the book is somewhat discounted, but tax and shipping brings the price right back up.

That’s when I found App Bounty. It’s an website where you can download apps, register for things, or take surveys in order to earn points. Once you have enough points, you can cash them in for giftcards. The three main giftcards they give away are iTunes, Google Play, and Amazon giftcards.

Downloading apps helps the company who created them earn money. Some of that money is used to pay the App Bounty crew to put it on their app so people download it. That money is used to buy giftcards to reward. I myself have been rewarded giftcards after I cashed my points in. I’ve gotten a couple books thanks to those Amazon giftcards.

You don’t need to input any credit card/bank information. You just need to download its app on your mobile device and start.

To start off with an extra 50 credits when you sign up, you can enter the code:

(By the way, this isn’t a sponsor or anything. I just think this is a super helpful website to get a little extra cash to buy books or other things.)

Hope this helps in one way or another!
