Reading is like potatoes, a short essay

I saw a TikTok recently of a person arguing that listening to audiobooks counts as reading. While I didn’t think much of it (since I agreed), something was nagging me at the back of my mind. I can only imagine that they made that TikTok because there are people in the book community who don’t consider audiobooks as a form of reading. Suddenly, while I was in the shower (where all the good ideas/thinking take place), I had a thought: reading is like potatoes, and here’s why.

My Good Reading Habits Tag

Hello everyone! Good morning/afternoon/evening/whatever-time-of-day-it-is-over-where-you-live! I decided to take a little break from packing up all my stuff, and what better way to do that than with a nice little tag? Thank you to the wonderful Marta @ The Book Mermaid for giving me the opportunity to rest my arms a bit. Who knew moving was so stressful and energy draining?

The RULES:

1 – List some of your good reading habits.
2 – Tag the person who tagged you.
3 – Pingback to the original post by Ally Writes Things.
4 – Nominate some of your blogging friends.

Let’s get cracking!

I need your help: Kindles!

I’m probably going to delete this later, but I’ve been thinking about getting a Kindle e-reader for quite some time now. I used to have a tablet that I read all my ebooks on but now that I don’t have it anymore, I was thinking about investing in an e-reader since that was basically all I ever used to tablet for anyways.

Currently I’m reading all my ebooks on my laptop, which can become a hassle at night because I love to lay down on my bed and read, and holding a laptop above my face is… well… very dangerous. I haven’t dropped my laptop on my face yet, but I don’t want to find out how it feels when a brick of metal hits my nose. Yeah… no thank you.

I only know one person who owns a Kindle (I don’t know too many people in my town who love to read in general) and she said I should invest in an e-reader. However, I wanted more people’s thoughts and opinions before I put down $100 or so for a Kindle.

That being said, I have a question for you:

If you own a Kindle, which model do you own and
do you think it’s worth it? Why or why not?

If you own a different e-reader, which one do
you own and what are your thoughts about it?

Please let me know about your thoughts in the comments because I could really use your help!

Dream Reading Space

Finding or creating the ideal reading place can be tricky. Any reader knows that there really isn’t a comfortable position to read books (if you have discovered one, please let me know). Sitting down for too long can make your bum go numb (it rhymed!), and lying on your back means that you’re arms will get tired from holding up the book for so long. Plus, you have a higher risk of dropping the book on your face, which isn’t a pleasant experience.

I was inspired by Arhaus.com to create my dream reading space. I had never designed a room before, but it was super fun to experiment around.

Here’s what I came up with.

All the Series Ever (Read, Reading, To Be Read) Tag

image

I was tagged by the lovely Aralyn over at Paper Addictions & Magic. Thanks so much for tagging me! I was looking for a good tag to do, and Aralyn just gave me one.

This tag was created by Fadwa over at Word Wonders.

The only rule that goes with this tag is that you write down whatever comes to mind first when you think about a book series that you’ve either read, are reading, or going to read.

I will only consider a series “read” if I’ve read all the books in the series. This means unfinished series like Throne of Glass and The Dark Artifices will not be considered “read” (they would be considered “currently reading”). Although I believe novellas are a part of a series, I will not include them in this tag.

Reading Too Many Books???

I have had a habit of reading several books at once. I know I’m not the only one out there, but I think I’m more on the extreme side.

I heard it was a bad thing to read several books at once because you can’t focus enough on one book.

But that’s the thing, I have to read at least three books at once to be able to concentrate on one. Is that strange? Am I an alien or something? SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!

I can’t just read ONE book. It drives me nuts!

And also, I still remember what’s happeneing in a book that I haven’t picked up in about half a year that I’m “currently reading”. Don’t worry, I’m reading it…. well… more like it’s on hold, but technically, I’m still reading it, right?

I’ve tried to read one book at a time but I was unable to without feeling extremely uncomfortable. It’s kind of like when I’m bored, I get this panicky feeling inside of me. I can’t NOT be doing anything, or else I’ll drive myself out of sanity.

So yeah. I don’t know why, but reading several stories at once helps me focus more.

Don’t question it.

I know what you’re thinking.

You are one, strange people on the internet….

I know I’m weird, thank you very much. But hopefully in a good way.
