“Aaaaah! You’re not crazy,” my mom says again, waving a wet plate at me. “Stop saying you’re crazy. People will think you’re a lunatic.”
And it’s true. They will. I Google the word “lunatic” on my phone and read her one of the definitions.
Lunatic: (noun) Wildly or giddily foolish
My mom pauses, stares at me, and finally sighs in resignation, recognizing way too much of me in that definition. “Huh,” she says, shrugging thoughtfully as she turns back to the sink. “So maybe ‘crazy’ isn’t so bad after all.”
I agree.
Sometimes crazy is just right.

This isn’t my normal read, but I read this book because my English teacher assigned us to read a biography. I couldn’t find one that actually interested me until I came across this one on Goodreads. There were so many great reviews, and so I thought why the heck not.

WARNING: I HAVE NO IDEA HOW SOMEONE CAN SPOIL AN AUTOBIOGRAPHY, BUT IT MIGHT HAPPEN PAST THIS POINT. PROCEED WITH CAUTION.

I have no idea where to start with this book.

Well, first of all, this book lives up to its title. It really is a funny book about horrible things. It talks about depression and anxiety, and all the doubts and lies they tell you. There are books out there that talk about these topics, but they don’t tackle those subjects like Jenny Lawson does. And frankly, she does an awesome job in doing just that.

I tend to steer clear of books about depression and anxiety and anything along those lines because they make me uncomfortable. It’s not because I don’t know what the author is talking about. Actually, it’s quite the opposite. I do understand what they’re talking about, but I feel like there’s something bigger than I’m not getting.

But this book didn’t make me feel that way. I was laughing right when I cracked open the book. While I was reading, it was like getting to know someone and their crazy adventures. And let me tell you, some of those adventures were CRAZY.

There were some parts of the book where Jenny Lawson’s tone changed from light & funny to serious. I didn’t mind those chapters. They were like the thing that sobered me up after all these wild adventures. Without them, the book would have looked like she was just making a big joke out of something that’s supposed to be taken a little bit seriously.

I had a lot of fun reading it. I don’t remember the last time where I laughed and smiled so much while reading.

I rate this book 5 / 5 BBC Sherlock characters. This book defied my bad luck with biographies.
