Most Anticipated Releases of 2020

I know we’re already a month and a half into 2020, but I still wanted to create a post fangirling over the books I’m excited about that’s coming out this year. I’m not going to include any books that have already been released this year in between January 1 and February 16 (the day I’m writing this post) because technically they’re not anticipated releases anymore.

Because some of these books I’m going to be talking about is not the first book in its series, I hid all the blurbs in a drop down that you can click to reveal just so I don’t accidentally spoil anyone who doesn’t want to be spoiled.

Anywho, let’s get excited about some new books!

Teen Titans: Beast Boy by Kami Garcia

Estimated release date: September 8th, 2020

I don’t know about you, but I’m a huge fan of @_picolo on Instagram for quite some time. I used to follow him on Tumblr, and now that I don’t use that platform anymore, I follow the artist on Instagram! I just love his style and obsession with Teen Titans. It’s so cool that he has this crazy opportunity to illustrate a graphic novels series, each book revolving around a different character. I really liked the artwork in the one he did about Raven, so I know that I’m going to have to check the one about Beast Boy out!

Aurora Burning (The Aurora Cycle, #2) by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff

Estimated release date: May 5th, 2020

I read the first book in the series and I absolutely loved it! Anyone who is a fan of Amie Kaufman’s and Jay Kristoff’s other series The Illuminae Files is sure to love this new series by them. I need to know what happens after the events of Aurora Rising, and it looks like I will only have to wait a couple more months! It comes out just before finals week, so you can bet your bottom dollar that I will be reading the book right when I’m done with all my exams and back home.

Read the blurb here

Our heroes are back… kind of. From the bestselling co-authors of the Illuminae Files comes the second book in the epic series about a squad of misfits, losers, and discipline cases who just might be the galaxy’s best hope for survival.

First, the bad news: an ancient evil—you know, your standard consume-all-life-in-the-galaxy deal—is about to be unleashed. The good news? Squad 312 is standing by to save the day. They’ve just got to take care of a few small distractions first.

Like the clan of gremps who’d like to rearrange their favorite faces.

And the cadre of illegit GIA agents with creepy flowers where their eyes used to be, who’ll stop at nothing to get their hands on Auri.

Then there’s Kal’s long-lost sister, who’s not exactly happy to see her baby brother, and has a Syldrathi army at her back. With half the known galaxy on their tails, Squad 312 has never felt so wanted.

When they learn the Hadfield has been found, it’s time to come out of hiding. Two centuries ago, the colony ship vanished, leaving Auri as its sole survivor. Now, its black box might be what saves them. But time is short, and if Auri can’t learn to master her powers as a Trigger, the squad and all their admirers are going to be deader than the Great Ultrasaur of Abraaxis IV.

Shocking revelations, bank heists, mysterious gifts, inappropriately tight bodysuits, and an epic firefight will determine the fate of the Aurora Legion’s most unforgettable heroes—and maybe the rest of the galaxy as well.

Check, Please!, Book 2: Sticks and Scones

Estimated release date: April 7th, 2020

Thanks to some fellow internet friends, I’ve learned that I can read this part of the series online right now if I wanted to since everything has already been published in web-comic form. However, I want to wait to read it in book format because that’s just how I prefer to read comics. There’s less clicking, and I can binge the whole thing without staring at a bright screen for long periods of time. I’m excited to get my hands on this wholesome story!

House of Earth and Blood (Crescent City, #1) by Sarah J. Maas

Estimated release date: March 3rd, 2020

You. Do. Not. Know. How. Excited. I. Am. For. This. Book! I’m so excited! I haven’t read a Sarah J. Maas book in a hot minute after finishing the Throne of Glass series with Kingdom of Ash. I’m super stoked to see what Maas has in store for us, especially since this new book is going to be in the adult genre. Granted, I’m not surprised this book is labeled adult, considering the direction both the Throne of Glass and especially the ACOTAR series went. I already preordered the book and I’m eagerly waiting to binge the whole thing during spring break.

Bryce Quinlan had the perfect life—working hard all day and partying all night—until a demon murdered her closest friends, leaving her bereft, wounded, and alone. When the accused is behind bars but the crimes start up again, Bryce finds herself at the heart of the investigation. She’ll do whatever it takes to avenge their deaths.

Hunt Athalar is a notorious Fallen angel, now enslaved to the Archangels he once attempted to overthrow. His brutal skills and incredible strength have been set to one purpose—to assassinate his boss’s enemies, no questions asked. But with a demon wreaking havoc in the city, he’s offered an irresistible deal: help Bryce find the murderer, and his freedom will be within reach.

As Bryce and Hunt dig deep into Crescent City’s underbelly, they discover a dark power that threatens everything and everyone they hold dear, and they find, in each other, a blazing passion—one that could set them both free, if they’d only let it.

With unforgettable characters, sizzling romance, and page-turning suspense, this richly inventive new fantasy series by #1 New York Times bestselling author Sarah J. Maas delves into the heartache of loss, the price of freedom—and the power of love.

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab

Estimated release date: October 6th, 2020

I’ve only ever read one book by V.E. Schwab, but I thoroughly enjoyed it and want to read more of her works, this one included. It seems like an interesting concept that I think I’ll really enjoy.

The Brightest Night (Origin, #3) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Estimated release date: October 20th, 2020

I love Jennifer L. Armentrout’s works. There’s something really addicting about them. I’ve been really digging the Origin series because I missed the Lux world so much, and I’m curious to see how the author ends this series.

Rage and Ruin (The Harbinger, #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Estimated release date: June 9th, 2020

This year we are blessed with not one, but two Jennifer L. Armentrout releases. I’m also super stoked for this book to come out because I really want to know what happens after the events of Storm and Fury. Thankfully, it comes out during the summer so I’ll *hopefully* have time to read it before the semester starts up again.

Read the blurb here

Forbidden alliances, forbidden love.

A half human, half angel and her bonded gargoyle protector must work with demons to stop the apocalypse while avoiding falling in love. The Harbinger is coming…but who or what is it? All of humankind may fall if Trinity and Zayne can’t win the race against time as dark forces gather.

As tensions rise, they must stay close together and patrol the DC streets at night, seeking signs of the Harbinger, an entity that is killing Wardens and demons with no seeming rhyme or reason.

Forbidden to be with each other, Zayne and Trinity fight their feelings and turn to unusual sources for help—the demon Roth and his cohorts. But as deaths pile up and they uncover a sinister plot involving the local high school and endangering someone dear to Zayne, Trin realizes she is being led…herded…played for some unknown end. As anger builds and feelings spiral out of control, it becomes clear that rage may be the ruin of them all.

We Free the Stars (Sands of Arawiya, #2) by Hafsah Faizal

Estimated release date: July 7th, 2020

Last but certainly not least, I’m super excited to see what happens in We Free the Stars. It left on a cliffhanger, and I haven’t been okay ever since. I need to know what happens next. It looks like this series is going to be a duology, so I’m interested to see how Faizal is going to end this story.
