Fall Activities Book Tag

It’s finally starting to feel like fall where I live. After having a good six months of 90+ ˚F (32+ ˚C) weather, I’m about ready to bust out my sweaters and finally go outside without sweating buckets.

1) Apple Picking: A book on your TBR that looks so delicious you can’t wait to take a bite out of it.

Nevernight (The Nevernight Chronicle, #1) by Jay Kristoff

I’ve never read any of Jay Kristoff’s books other than Illuminae, which he co-wrote with Amie Kaufman. I’ve heard so many great things about his books, and I really, really want to try them out. Everyone has been raving about this book ever since it was released, and the synopsis seems right up my alley.

2) Corn Maze: A book that’s so much fun to get lost in.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan

It is so easy to get lost in the Percy Jackson/Greek mythology world. Every chapter leaves you wanting more. Percy’s sassy comments are the best, and this series is bound to make you laugh.

3) Haunted Houses: A book that scared you silly.

The Dead Zone by Stephen King

I don’t like anything remotely scary. I’m a big scaredy cat. I refuse to watch scary horror movies. I refuse to watch the trailers of those horror movies. I refuse to read horror books.

So why did I read this Stephen King book?

I have no earthly idea, but it scared the bejeezle out of me.

4) Pumpkin Patch: The latest book you picked up (purchased).

Crooked Kingdom (Six of Crows, #2) by Leigh Bardugo

I went out with my bookish friend in celebration of finishing all the exams last month. We obviously went to Barnes and Noble to get some books as a reward for surviving the week. We both bought Crooked Kingdom because we loved the first book and needed the second one right away. I still haven’t read it yet, but I’m planning to very soon.

5) Scenic Drives: A book that is lyrically beautiful.

Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #1) by Laini Taylor

I’m going to have to agree with Heather on this one. I haven’t come across an author that has a poetic writing style like Laini Taylor does. It’s freaking beautiful and almost like music.

6) Pumpkin Carving: A book you didn’t like and wouldn’t mind carving up.

The Tiger Saga by Colleen Houck

I liked the first book, but the series went downhill from there. On top of the fact that the books get worse as they go, they’re also culturally and religiously inaccurate. I have a friend that is Hindu, and she told me that the majority of the “facts” in this series were wrong. I don’t know if Colleen Houck didn’t do enough research or didn’t care to, but I found it offensive.

7) Hiking: A book that was a highly enjoyable romp.

Six of Crows (Six of Crows, #1) by Leigh Bardugo

I love this book. I love books that have crazy geniuses in them, and Kaz is definitely a crazy genius.

This book is one of those stories where all the little details in the end reveal their purpose. All of those small elements that seemingly had no value lead up to something drastic.

8) Drinking Apple Cider: A sweet book to curl up under the covers with.

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

This book is so cute. It’s something I would reread under the covers with a cup of hot tea while it’s raining outside.

Fangirl is all about relationships, and not just the romantic aspect like many YA contemporary novels. It also covers friendships and family relationships.

9) Jumping in a Leaf Pile: A book that reminds you of your childhood.

Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling

Anyone who is surprised by my answer raise your hand. No one? Didn’t think so.

I know my answer isn’t original, but this series is one of the biggest parts of my childhood. My whole world revolved around Harry Potter and magic in general. This series is the reason why I love books so much now.

10) Scary Movie Night: Your favorite spooky read.

I don’t read scary/spooky stories. Period. Call me a chicken. I don’t care. To be honest, I am a chicken. I don’t like scary books, and that is that.

11) Bonus! Costume Party: A book with an eclectic cast of characters.

Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas

Ha! You thought for once I was going to make a post without mentioning Sarah J. Maas in any way. Well, that’s not the case today.

I realized while I was searching for a series for this category that a lot of YA books don’t have a lot of diversity in its characters. I was going to put the Six of Crows duology, but I’ve already put both books in different categories and didn’t want to repeat them again.

This series was the next best thing I could think of. However, I don’t think this is the best example for this category. Unfortunately, I haven’t read any books with (in my opinion) a diverse cast of characters.
